How are the dates fixed?
Each festival sits on a tithi of an amanta lunar month and is observed on the civil day its kala rule picks: pradosh for Diwali, madhyahna for Ganesh Chaturthi, sunrise for the new year days. Dates are reckoned for New Delhi.
